April 2015 Disney World Crowd Calendar, Fastpass+ Booking and Dining Windows and Best Times to Visit Disney World

September 14, 2014

April begins as an extremely busy month and dies down to moderate to low crowd levels toward the end of the month.  You’ll find that the Magic Kingdom offers Extra Magic Hours every day during the second week of April.  If you’re an onsite guest at a Disney World Resort, you should take advantage of that Extra Magic Hour morning!  That first hour is a great time to visit a good number of Fantasyland attractions.

Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival runs from March 4 to May 15, 2015 and it includes a free concert series known as Flower Power concerts.  The artists that perform are from the 60’s to the 80’s and offer genuine flashback music.  Check out the topiaries, take in a gardening seminar, walk through the butterfly garden and grab a bite to eat at the festival booths.

April is beautiful in Walt Disney World.  The weather is warm, but not hot and there’s beautiful flowers everywhere.  Epcot decorates really well for the Flower and Garden Festival and offers great topiaries and gardening seminars.  It is central Florida, so bring that poncho in case you get an afternoon shower.

Should I use Extra Magic Hours privilege?

Avoid the trap of visiting a park on its longest hours day.  More people will be there and the wait times can be 30% to 100% higher than other days.

If you are planning to use Extra Magic Hours, use the morning ones, they are a great benefit, if you leave after lunch or parade time.  Avoid the parks that offer evening Extra Magic Hours because they have large crowds at night and many rides have long lines (Hollywood Studios and Epcot).  The exception would be the Magic Kingdom late at night because most guests won’t stay up from 1am to 3am in the morning.  If you choose a Late Extra Magic Hour park, you should plan to sleep in the next day.

March 2015 Disney World Crowd Calendar, Fastpass+ Booking and Dining Windows and Best Times to Visit Disney World

Spring Break Season!  March and early April are typically a BUSY time to visit Walt Disney World.  The crowds quickly move from moderate to insane by the end of the month.  You can tell Disney World is expecting big crowds the final week because they will offer Extra Magic Hours at 2 or more parks every day and the Magic Kingdom has EMH every day.  Some days they will offer morning and evening EMH in the same day.

The Epcot Flower and Garden Festival begins March 4 and runs into May and it creates a slight increase in crowds, but affects Epcot more on the weekends than at other times.  The concert lineup for Flower Power weekends haven’t been announced yet.  It’s rare that rides are closed during this month, but check my Attraction Refurbishment page closer to your date to verify.

While March is typically busy, you can manage them with good touring plans and Fastpass+ usage.   I’ve set touring records during some of the busiest days, so I know what I’m talking about. If you are staying at a Walt Disney World resort, rise early on your Magic Kingdom day and take advantage of the early opening of the Magic Kingdom.

Avoid the trap of visiting a park on its longest hours day.  More people will be there and the wait times can be 30% to 100% higher than other days.

Updated 8/11/2014

February tends to be a light to moderate crowd month, except President’s Week and the Princess Half Marathon Weekend, when the crowds can become quite substantial.  There’s no special parties or great events, so we might find a few attractions down for refurbishment.   Those refurbishments are typically listed a few months before hand.  Water rides may be closed.  Check my Attraction Refurbishment page closer to your date..

While President’s Week is typically insanely busy, you can manage them with good touring plans and Fastpass+ usage.   If you are staying at a Walt Disney World resort, rise early on your Magic Kingdom day and take advantage of the early opening of the Magic Kingdom.   When visiting the parks, I recommend that you avoid the Extra Magic Hour parks as they will draw in more guests.

As of now, it appears that Fantasmic! may not be performed a few days in February.  It could just be an error in the schedule, but I’ve made the initial calendar based on those projections.  If Fantasmic! isn’t performed a given day, it would be the BEST day to tour the park.

Likewise, there are several days of most weeks that the Main Street Electrical Light Parade isn’t being performed.  Those days are beyond a doubt the BEST days to visit the Magic Kingdom as most people want to be there when the parade is performed.  If the parade and Fantasmic! are important to you, try hopping late for those or seeing them on a second day.

January 2015 Disney World Crowd Calendar, Fastpass+ Booking and Dining Windows and Best Times to Visit Disney World

MTbannerUpdated 8/11/2014

January is typically a pretty calm month at Walt Disney World.  The weather is cold and the crowds are low except for the first few days, Marathon weekend and MLK Weekend.  There’s no special parties or great events, so many rides go down for refurbishment.   Those refurbishments are typically listed a few months before hand.  Water rides are typically closed most or all of January.

Rumors have been circulating that The American Idol Experience and possibly Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular may close permanently at the beginning of January.  We should know better in a few months.

While the final week of Christmas vacation is insanely busy, you can manage them with good touring plans and Fastpass+ usage.   If you are staying at a Walt Disney World resort, rise early on your Magic Kingdom day and take advantage of the early opening of the Magic Kingdom.   When visiting the parks, I recommend that you avoid the Extra Magic Hour parks as they will draw in more guests.

With lower hours than normal early in the month, it may be best to spend a day in the parks and spend an evening the Fort Wilderness Campfire.  The Magic Kingdom will only offer the Main Street Electrical Parade on select nights each week.  Those park days tend to be more busy than others.  If the evening spectaculars are important, chose the day with the lowest hours or park hop into the Magic Kingdom at night.

Avoid the trap of visiting a park on its longest hours day.  More people will be there and the wait times can be 30% to 100% higher than other days.  The BEST day to visit the Magic Kingdom in terms of lines is a Christmas Party day.  Many attractions are walk-on.

If you are planning to use Extra Magic Hours, use the morning ones, they are a great benefit, if you leave after lunch or parade time.  Avoid the parks that offer evening Extra Magic Hours because they have large crowds at night and many rides have long lines.  If you choose a Late Extra Magic Hour park, you should plan to sleep in the next day.

KennythePirate’s December Walt Disney World Crowd Calendar with Dining and Fastpass+ Booking Dates

December 2014 Disney World Crowd Calendar, Fastpass+ Booking and Dining Windows and Best Times to Visit Disney World

MTbannerAugust 11, 2014

The first two and a half weeks of December are an awesome time to visit Walt Disney World.  The crowds are low, the weather is pleasant and the entire resort has been transformed into a Christmas/Winter Wonderland.  Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Parties runs on select nights through December 19th, as well as the always popular Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights and the Castle Dream Lighting Ceremony continuing throughout the month.  Holidays Around the World with the always popular Candlelight Processional and  Epcot Storytellers will continue through Christmas Eve.

December 5 & 6 are the likely dates for the pre-recording of the Disney Christmas Parade that is shown on Christmas Day on ABC.  It doesn’t affect the wait times of the Magic Kingdom very much, but it does create a bit of a log jam in the hub and down Main Street.  It’s great fun to see celebrities sing and Disney characters parade past, but requires you to stand in one position for several hours.

The weeks two and three of December are usually a great time to be at the resort, but in recent years the crowds have increased with a great deal of South American friends on their Summer vacation.  It’s still a much better choice that the two weeks of Christmas vacation.  The crowds slowly begin to increase about mid week of the third week and grow to insane levels from Christmas through New Years.

The second week of December brings in a great deal of elementary and middle school children to participate in the Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading championships.  The kids don’t affect park attendance too much, but staying in an All Star Resort could be a bit of an encumbrance due to all the cheering and laughing.

Mid-week Christmas Parties are generally the best if you’re vacationing here.  The Christmas Parties allow guests to see the Christmas Parade and Fireworks as well as meet special characters.  If you’re planning to attend a Christmas Party, you should either sleep in or take a mid-day nap.

The final two Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas parties are sure to sell out.  If you are planning to stay over after December 19th, you really don’t need to purchase a ticket to the party.  You’ll get to see the Christmas Parade, Christmas Castle show and Tomorrowland Christmas show for free as a part of park admission.  The only benefit you would have is meeting a few rare characters and eating a bunch of cookies that are included with admission.

While the weeks of Christmas vacation are insanely busy, you can be manage them with good touring plans and Fastpass+ usage.   If you are staying at a Walt Disney World resort, rise early on your Magic Kingdom day and take advantage of the early opening of the Magic Kingdom.   The initial calendar doesn’t reflect the actual operating hours during the busiest time.  Including the Extra Magic Hours, the park can stay open from 7:00am until 3:00am.  When visiting other parks, I recommend that you avoid the Extra Magic Hour parks as they will draw in more guests.

With lower hours than normal early in the month, it may be best to spend a day in the parks and spend an evening at the resort pool.  The Magic Kingdom will only offer Wishes and Main Street Electrical Parade on select nights each week.  Those park days tend to be more busy than others.  If the evening spectaculars are important, chose the day with the lowest hours or park hop into the Magic Kingdom at night.

Updated 8/11/2014

The first three weeks of November are generally a wonderful time to visit Walt Disney World.  The crowds are low, the weather is pleasant and the entire resort transforms into a Christmas/Winter Wonderland almost overnight.  Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Parties begin on November 7th, as well as the always popular Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights and the Castle Dream Lighting Ceremony.  The Friday following Thanksgiving will launch the Holidays Around the World with the always popular Epcot Storytellers.

The first week is somewhat busy because it’s known as “Jersey Week.”  The schools of New Jersey are closed that week and many students and teachers take advantage of the opportunity to visit.  Additionally the Wine and Dine Marathon will add to the crowds.  Epcot’s Food & Wine Festival with the Eat to the Beat Concert Series will wrap up in mid-November.

KennythePirate’s October Walt Disney World Crowd Calendar with Dining and Fastpass+ Booking Dates

October 2014 Disney World Crowd Calendar, Fastpass+ Booking and Dining Windows and Best Times to Visit Disney World

MTbannerUpdated 8/11/2014

October starts off as a warm month and begins to cool off as the month goes along.  It’s still in the high season for hurricanes, so be sure to check into travel insurance for your trip.   We tend to see moderate rainfalls, but showers can happen any afternoon and some Halloween Parties experience rainfall.  The crowds in October tend to be in the low to moderate range.  The Halloween Parties are quite popular and sell out often on weekends and around Halloween.

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Epcot’s Food & Wine Festival with the Eat to the Beat Concert Series will bring in some crowds, but nothing like Summer season or the big Holidays.  The Columbus Day weekend is typically really busy, but can be managed with good TOURING PLANS and Fastpass+ usage.   Mid-week Halloween Parties are generally the best if you’re vacationing here.  It’s my opinion that everyone should experience the Halloween Party at least once.  The lower crowds can also lead to Attraction Refurbishments that are typically not announced until summer.  Be sure to check back during the summer months to see if anything has changed.

October is a great month as far as crowds are concerned and is among the best times to visit.  Regardless of the times you can still enjoy the parks by going to a green park, arriving at least 45 minutes before rope drop.

I recommend the strategy of arriving early and taking a mid-afternoon break.  Go for a swim with the kids and enjoy the pool, then take a nap of an hour or so before returning to a park for evening entertainment and rides.

September 2014 Disney World Crowd Calendar, Fastpass+ Booking and Dining Windows and Best Times to Visit Disney World

Updated 8/31/2014

September begins as a pretty hot month, but can cool just a touch as the month goes along.  Those who are from cooler or less humid climates may find Orlando to still be really hot.  September is the 4th rainiest month and is part of Hurricane season.  You may consider travel insurance to guarantee you don’t have a financial loss in the event a hurricane alters travel plans.

September is one of the best months in terms of crowds.  You’ll find very few really busy days in September.  To attempt to attract crowds Walt Disney World offers Night of Joy, Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Epcot’s Food & Wine Festival with the Eat to the Beat Concert Series.  The first Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is typically really busy as well as the one that begins the Food & Wine Party, which usually sells out.  Mid-week Halloween Parties are generally the best if you’re vacationing here.  It’s my opinion that everyone should experience the Halloween Party at least once.  The lower crowds can also lead to Attraction Refurbishments.  Be sure to check back during the summer months to see if anything has changed.

September is the preferred month as far as crowds are concerned and is among the best times to visit.  Regardless of the times you can still enjoy the parks by going to a green park, arriving at least 45 minutes before rope drop and following one of my TOURING PLANS to get the most out of your day (more plans coming soon!)

I recommend the strategy of arriving early and taking a mid-afternoon break.  Go for a swim with the kids and enjoy the pool, then take a nap of an hour or so before returning to a park for evening entertainment and rides.

The highest recorded temperature was 103°F in September of 1921.

September is the 4th hottest month and 4th wettest month.  It begins as a rainy month and ends relatively quiet, except when there’s a tropical storm in the area.

Dress in light colors and wear comfortable shoes with socks that breathe.  Bring a small, handheld fan for each child.  Bring a poncho for each person and a stroller cover because there’s often afternoon thunderstorms in the summer.

August 2014 Disney World Crowd Calendar, Fastpass+ Booking Windows and Best Times to Visit Disney World

Updated 7/7/14

August is still insanely hot and rainy.  It’s the second wettest month historically, so expect an afternoon thunderstorm most days of your vacation.  I know it’s known as the “Sunshine State,” but that is just a marketing ploy.  It rains often here, especially in the summer.  The first week and a half of August  is end of the busy summer travel season at Walt Disney World, so the parks are quite crowded initially.  The parks begin to lighten around the 10th and will continue with moderate crowds until around August 24.  The last week of August is the best time to visit Walt Disney World in the summer season, if you children haven’t started school or you are willing to allow them to miss time.  September is the preferred month as far as crowds are concerned and is among the best times to visit.  Regardless of the times you can still enjoy the parks by going to a green park, arriving at least 45 minutes before rope drop and following one of my TOURING PLANS to get the most out of your day (more plans coming soon!)

There’s no special events or special entertainment in the month of August at the Disney Parks, so just enjoy the regular stuff and the time with your family.

I recommend the strategy of arriving early and taking a mid-afternoon break.  Go for a swim with the kids and enjoy the pool, then take a nap of an hour or so before returning to a park for evening entertainment and rides.

August  is the second hottest average month and 2nd rainiest in Orlando.  If you factor in the humidity, it can feel almost unbearable in the mid-afternoon.

Updated 5/13/14

June begins the busy 2014 summer season at Walt Disney World, so the crowd calendar is basically Orange the whole month, except the last week of the month when it’s leading into the July 4th week, which is a red season.  You can still enjoy the parks by going to a green park, arriving at least 45 minutes before rope drop and following one of my touring plans to get the most out of your day (more plans coming soon!)

I recommend the strategy of arriving early and taking a mid-afternoon break.  Go for a swim with the kids and enjoy the pool, then take a nap of an hour or so before returning to a park for evening entertainment and rides.

It still gets hot in May, especially later in the month, with an average high of 89 and average low of 65, and it gets humid in Orlando.  Dress in light colors and wear comfortable shoes with socks that breathe.  Bring a small, handheld fan for each child.  Bring a poncho for each person and a stroller cover because there’s often afternoon thunderstorms in the summer.  May is in about the middle of the range in terms of rain.
