Are Maleficent and The Queen from Snow White being eliminated from Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party?

There’s a verse in the Bible that says, “The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.”  If the evidence that some are being presented is accurate, all kinds of evil is being stirred up for the hard-ticket event known as Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.  But it may not be the kind of wink and nod, Disney evil that you’re expecting.

In previous years many of Disney’s most famous villains have met with guests following the Villains Mix & Mingle held at the Castle Stage in the Magic Kingdom.  This allowed guests the opportunity to meet Maleficent and the Queen from Snow White among others.  Some of these villains are being promised for meet and greets including Jafar in Adventureland and the Queen of Hearts at the Mad Tea Party.  Other villains like the Tremaines (who previously offered a meet and greet), Dr. Faciler, Frollo and Cruella de Vil are being moved to only a Dance Party environment at “Club Villain.”  The villains will no longer meet after the Mix and Mingle and it’s now being called The Villains Mix and Mingle – Live on Stage.  It’s even being reduced from 4 shows to 3!  Why in the world would you keep the word Mingle in the name when they aren’t going to mingle with paying guests?  Who knows.

Rachael – Happy Birthday! And here’s my present to you… Judge Claude Frollo is expected to make appearances inside Club Villain during the Halloween party! The villains will not be coming down to meet Guests after the “Villains Mix & Mingle” show, as they have in the past. By having them around the park, though, they will be available most of the night and able to see as many Guests as possible.

But this is where the love of money comes into the tale.  Disney World recently announced a $99 per person ‘Villains Soiree’ which promised a meet and greet with many villains including Maleficent and The Queen among others.  Before the Soiree event was released, the Disney Parks Blog promised it’s readers that Maleficent and the Queen would meet with Aurora and Snow White inside Princess Fairytale Hall for any guest paying the 60 to 70 bucks per person extra to attend the party itself.  Well, that promise has been withdrawn with a simple press of the delete key.

It appears that Maleficent and the Queen will not meet with regular paying guests and will only meet with guests who paid an extra $99 per person at that Villains Soiree dessert and parade/fireworks viewing event.  Their blog post was edited and the comments below the post are now telling people that Cinderella and Rapunzel will meet in their regular spot instead.  BAD SHOW!  This means that a family of four would have to pay $636 just to meet Maleficent and the Queen and you’ll only find the exact same characters in Fairytale Hall that meet during the day and offer Fastpass+ then too!

Does this mean that Rapunzel and Cinderella won’t be at the party? :(

Shawn Slater on August 28th, 2014 at 11:05 am
Amber – You will be able to find them inside Princess Fairytale Hall.

First they promise guests that they will meet Aurora/Maleficent and The Queen/Snow White in Princess Fairytale Hall (which seemed like a really popular meet waiting to happen), then offer an upsell event that was optional to guests that already paid to enter the party, then remove your promise to meet these villains and make them exclusive to this highly upcharged event only?  I have no issues with companies wishing to make money on their products, but to take away all the Princes, then promise this special meet and greet, only to remove it shortly after with a few backspaces and a couple of comments following the post is a pretty bad way to treat guests that are already paying a premium fee to enter the party.  I thought we were taught to keep our promises when we were children?  It appears that there could be all kinds of evil at the Halloween Party, but it’s the kind that comes from greed.

Epcot to replace entertainment acts Mo’Rockin, Off Kilter, Spirit of America Fife & Drum Corps and World Showcase Players

In an attempt to move toward a more authentic World Showcase experience at Epcot, Walt Disney World has announced the upcoming replacement of some entertainment acts that have a huge folowing.  Mo’Rockin, Off Kilter, Spirit of America Fife & Drum Corps and World Showcase Players will be removed from Epcot.  Rumors point to late September in the September 27 range.

Disney states, “New experiences debuting over the next several months will contribute to the rich mix of entertainment at Epcot, and provide fresh experiences for our guests. In the near future, you can look forward to enjoying a traditional Berber music and dance troupe in Morocco, a corps of dynamic flag-waving performers in Italy, a thrilling lumberjack-inspired show in Canada, a Celtic folk music ensemble at the United Kingdom, and more.

We always enjoy taking in the World Showcase Players, so they will be missed for our family, but Epcot has presented the same acts and,  in many cases, the same songs for many years.  A refreshment is long overdue for a park that is supposed to be always changing.  Rumors have been pointing toward Maelstrom changing to support more of a Frozen theme that could begin as early as late September as well.

What do you think of these changes to Epcot’s World Showcase?

What will happen to the Frozen Fun celebration beyond September?

I get this question frequently, so I thought I’d put out the information that I’ve been given through some sources.  Remember that this should be treated as RUMOR until it’s officially confirmed by Disney.  I’ve heard that the Frozen Fun, currently known as Frozen Summer Fun, will continue until at least early January 2015 in some form.

The For the First Time in Forever:  A Frozen Sing-a-long will likely continue daily through that period along with Wandering Oaken’s Funland and the fireworks will be presented on weekends until Thanksgiving and Christmas when they will be nightly.

The only question at this point is what will happen to the parade feature.  The parade elements are currently on loan from Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and will need to be returned for practices to begin at the Magic Kingdom before the Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Parties begin.  They could take some old parade vehicles and create a couple of new elements or the parade could be cut with some other element added.  The Frozen Premium Package has been extremely popular, so I’d guess they continue the parade in some form to keep the cashflow moving that helps pay for the event.

FACT:  In another note concerning this celebration, the Sing-a-long will change from 6 shows daily to 10 shows daily beginning September 2.  If you don’t wish to use FP+ for this experience, you might find the really early or late shows easier to get into than the other shows.   Here’s the new schedule that begins September 2:

9:25am, 10:25am, 11:30am, 12:35pm, 1:40pm, 2:45pm, 3:50pm, 4:55pm, 6:00pm, 7:05pm

CharacterLocator.com will be updated on Saturday night with those new show times as well.

Villains’ Sinister Soiree: A Wicked Takeover of Cinderella Castle provided as upsell to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

I usually reserve my thoughts for add-ons like this until I’ve experienced the event, like the Star Wars Premium Package which was rolled over into the Frozen Premium Package and the Star Wars Character Meals.  At this time I don’t plan to attend this event.  It may come off as the most awesome thing Disney has ever offered, but I can’t bring myself to spend $100 to review this when I could use my hard-earned money in other ways.  If you would like to sponsor my review, I’ll do it for your benefit and plug your cause, but I don’t plan to attend.

It seems like you’ll waste 1 hour of your 5 that you’re paying for and will get little in return.  I love the Tremaines and the little singing thing might just be fun, but just follow my advice to see the second parade and you’ll be fine.  You can see the fireworks without a “premium location.”  Just face the Castle and you’ll have a good view.

According the the Disney phone operator the following villains will appear (but I don’t guarantee this) Lady Tremaine, Cruella de Vil, Maleficent, Queen Grimhilde, Dr. Facilier, Frollo, Captain Hook and Queen of Hearts.

Join Lady Tremaine and her villainous friends at the witching hour for the season’s most decadent dessert party. Taking place during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary-Halloween Party, it’s the Villains’ Sinister Soiree: A Wicked Takeover of Cinderella Castle! Set within the majestic halls of Cinderella’s Royal Table, don’t miss your chance to meet a menagerie of malevolent special guests—all while you indulge in devilish desserts and wicked entertainment.

As the evening continues, follow fellow Guests to the dining room, where the surroundings have transformed into an upscale, villainous atmosphere. Inside, enjoy the eerie entertainment as a piano player provides live music, accompanied by a few haunting solos from Lady Tremaine herself.

By purchasing a ticket to both Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and the Villains’ Sinister Soiree: A Wicked Takeover of Cinderella Castle, you’ll receive:

  • preferred viewing for the 8:15 performance of Mickey’s “Boo-to-You” Halloween Parade,
  • as well preferred viewing for the Happy HalloWishes Fireworks Spectacular.
  • Plus, you’ll be treated to the Dessert Soiree at Cinderella’s Table—a delightful affair where you can feast your senses on Lady Tremaine’s eerie musical talents, over-the-top desserts and specialty non-alcoholic beverages.
  • You’ll even receive an autograph card
  • and a souvenir Maleficent dragon cup!

Admission Admission to the Villains’ Sinister Soiree: A Wicked Takeover of Cinderella Castle is available for $99 per person, plus tax (gratuity included). Please be aware that admission to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is required and is not included in the price. In addition, be aware that Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is a special ticketed event and is not included with admission to Magic Kingdom park.

My Royal Coronation offers Disney World guests a breakfast with Anna and Elsa!

Many of my readers clamor for an opportunity to meet Anna and Elsa at Walt Disney World.  The Frozen sisters offer Fastpass+ that are quickly absorbed by onsite guests 60 days in advance at midnight on their booking day.  Many have asked if Anna and Elsa are available for a character meal.  Disney doesn’t currently offer a character meal for Anna and Elsa, but a few travel agency owners gathered together to provide just such an opportunity.  They plan to offer a high quality experience with beautiful decor and delicious food.
In addition to a special meet and greet with Anna and Elsa and photo opportunity, you’ll receive a delicious breakfast an opportunity to purchase a beautiful crown.  The crowns bring about the title My Royal Coronation.  This is NOT the official Disney coronation of Anna and Elsa that we expect to take place later in the fall.  My little girl and I will be attending this special breakfast and would love to meet you there as well!  Be sure to get your tickets now as sales are limited.

Villains Unleashed event map

A friend sent me the official Villains Unleashed event map, so I thought I’d pass it along for your viewing.  It shows where every character will be located, food & merchandise locations and what rides are open.

You may recall that I recently posted this information in text format on August 16 as well.

Hope you have a great time and see you there!

Change for Character Palooza times for August

I made a mistake.  Not words that many in Disney bloggerdom ever use, right?  Well, I goofed up the Character Palooza schedule for the remainder of August.  I had it correct for the days when Fantasmic! is shown at 8:30 and 10:00pm in September, but blew it today and the rest of August.  At least my error was to get people to show up too early and hang out and chat with me.

I’ve updated the August Crowd Calendar with the correct time for the remainder of August.

People tell me they can’t find my Character Palooza information, but I’m not sure I could make it any easier.  It’s under Characters at the TOP of the page.  It has a large photo with “Take Advantage of Character Palooza” on the top slides and it’s on the LEFT bar with Character Palooza and scroll down some and you’ll see it again.  You could even use one of the two search features to find it, or just click this Character Palooza link.

Here’s a few photos from today’s Character Palooza at Hollywood Studios.  My son got to join in for some silly face, Olaf bombing fun.  Click on a pic for a larger image.

American Idol closing and Frozen Sing Along receiving Fastpass+

I’m a little behind in reporting this news, but felt it was important for those planning September trips to be aware that The American Idol Experience will close permanently on August 30 (Hey, that’s my birthday!)  It will not reopen.  It was originally reported that it would close in January, but they rushed the closing.

As I rumored a while back, the For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing A Long will move away from the paper return time cards and begin using Fastpass+ on September 2nd.  It will be a Tier 2 Fastpass+, basically replacing American Idol.  I’ve been asked if one should choose this or Star Tours.  I would choose the early show for the Sing A Long and use my 4th FP+ for Star Tours.  Star Tours has HUGE capacity and also has low walk on waits in the morning and late in the evening.  I’ve updated my Fastpass+ Priority Guide to reflect this change.  I also posted a note on my guide to experience all the Frozen Summer Fun.

The Frozen Summer Fun is currently only guaranteed until September 28 and the Fireworks will move to Fri-Sun only in September.

In a very minor note the American Film Institute Showcase will close permanently today, August 17, 2014.

Villains Unleashed character meet and greets, entertainment, merchandise and details.

Villains Unleashed is looking like it is going to turn out to be one of the best character events Disney World has ever offered.  There are many characters that are either really rare or have never met at Disney World.  I know I’m excited about the night!

The event begins offically at 8:00pm, but guests will be allowed to enter using their special event ticket at 5:00pm.  If you are already in the park after 5:00pm, you can visit the Indiana Jones Stunt Show area or Soundstage One that currently houses Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post.  Here’s some of what you might expect at the special hard ticket party.

NOTE:  I won’t be creating any special touring plans for the event because everyone will have a different desire to meet different characters.  I’ll be offering a special post-fun meet up at the Sorcerer’s Hat at 1:00am.  I’ll be in the area earlier I’m sure as well.

The characters will NOT be signing autographs.  Instead, you’ll be given cards that have their signatures imprinted upon them.

Constantine from Muppets Most Wanted to appear at Villains Unleashed

From the Disney Parks blog today:

This just in! We’ve learned that none other than “Number One Criminal” and “World’s Most Dangerous Frog,” Constantine, will also be showing up for “Villains Unleashed”! Constantine, last seen plotting the robbery of the century in Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted,” bears a striking resemblance to Kermit the Frog. This evil doppelganger is often up to no good, although according to him, “It’s not easy being mean.”
mmwvuc198379

Constantine will be appearing exclusively during “Villains Unleashed,” August 23 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Look for him during the event, inside the Stage One Company Store location near Muppet*Vision 3D. Of course, you can also see him in “Muppets Most Wanted,” now available on Blu-ray Combo Pack and Digital HD.

“Villains Unleashed” is shaping up to be one hot ticket! Admission to this special event is $67 plus tax ($62 plus tax for children 3-9). Tickets are limited, so get yours before they’re gone!
