Rock Your Summer Side Dance Party at Hollywood Studios

Rock Your Summer Side Dance Party

Update:  It appears that this dance party will be merged into the Frozen Summer of Fun Live promotion and will begin at 5:30pm at the Sorcerer’s Hat.

Something that seemingly appeared out of nowhere is the new “Rock Your Summer Side” Disney character dance party.  It was announced on Friday and began the same day.  According to the press release the dance party will be offered in front of the Sorcerer Hat at Hollywood Studios until August 22nd.  The dance party runs from 6:00pm to 10:00pm daily.

The dance party features 30 minutes of live music by Mulch, Sweat and Shears followed by 30 minutes with a DJ and the Disney characters.  The characters first appeared at 6:30pm to an otherwise empty dance party area.  As soon as everyone saw the face below, the people in the area ran to meet the VIP characters.

Character Palooza at Hollywood Studios on March 20, 2014

My daughter and I set out from the apartment at 5:00 to make it to the 5:40pm Character Palooza on the Streets of America today.  If you need to know the details of what Character Palooza is and how it functions just click this link.  The info is ALWAYS on the left hand bar and is found weekly in my www.characterlocator.com app.

We arrived at 5:38 pm on the San Francisco Street part of the Streets of America and found a few people waiting around for Character Palooza to begin or just resting.  Those with advance knowledge would have been prepared for the 5:40pm arrival and shown up a few minutes early.

RUMOR: Doc McStuffins to begin appearing in “early 2014”

As far as I’m aware, Drew81 broke the news last week on a web forum that Doc McStuffins will be coming to Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios in early 2014.  He didn’t provide an actual date and the thread failed to mention that Doc McStuffins will be an exclusive character for Hollywood and Vine character breakfast and lunch.  She will take the place of one of the other characters in the rotation, likely Agent OSO (sorry) or June.  I’ll let you know when I hear the proposed date that she will begin and other details.  I wouldn’t want anyone to book an expensive meal just with the hope that she might appear.  Of course, you could always cancel by midnight the night before your reservation with no penalty.

I’ve also heard that we should expect Doc to appear in the Walt Disney World Christmas parade, the segment is supposed to be filmed this Saturday.

Hollywood Studios Character Palooza may be offered in November

Updated 11/2/2013

According to a trusted source, Hollywood Studios is experimenting with the idea of continuing Character Palooza during the month of November on days when there are TWO Fantasmics! scheduled and only when there are two Fantasmics.  The source specifically mentioned November 8th and 9th as already being scheduled for 3:30 PM on Streets of America.

This is a possible schedule that MIGHT occur in November.  Character Palooza is an unannounced meet and could be canceled for a number of reasons including inclement weather.  Don’t shoot the messenger, if it doesn’t occur on one or more of these days.

Doc McStuffins to appear at D23

One of the most common questions I receive concerns Doc McStuffins.   She is also one of the more popular search terms to enter on the blog. Doc has a lot of fans and they really want her to appear in the parks.  We saw Sofia the First make her grand public premier at the Disney World Christmas Parade.  Fans had hoped that Sofia would already be offering meets in the parks.  That was pushed back at least until Fall 2013.  Well, today Disney released a little big of information that shows that Doc McStuffins will indeed become a meetable character.

Doc will make her grand public premier at the D23 Fan Expo in Anaheim, Calfornia on Sunday, August 11th.  Here’s hoping that it points to Doc McStuffins and Sofia the First joining the Hollywood Studios Character crew this fall!  Perhaps these two will replace June and Oso at Hollywood and Vine?

Other characters said to appear at D23 include Agent P, Phineas & Ferb, Spider Man, Iron Man, Sofia the First and Jake

Monsters University meet and greet at Hollywood Studios

Last week I mentioned that Mike and Sulley are getting a makeover for their meet and greet at Hollywood Studios.  This week Disney released this concept art.  Sulley is wearing a jacket that looks very similar to one I used own.  I like that they will receive new costume overlays and some props in the meet.  What do you think?

Monsters Inc Laugh Floor at the Magic Kingdom will receive some changes as well.

Wreck-it Ralph and Vanellope begin appearing October 28

image

Disney Parks has confirmed the news that I’ve been telling you about for quite some time.  Wreck-it Ralph and Vanellope will begin meeting guests at Hollywood Studios on Sunday, October 28 in the Magic of Disney Animation area.  It’s the same area that houses Sorcerer Mickey and the Incredibles.

My best guess is that the movie will be a big success, but the character may be short-lived.  Ralph can get pretty exhausted wrecking all day and he may not last more than a few months.  Costumers have described him as a “hot mess” when it comes to how difficult it is for him to move about.  Think of James P. “Sulley” Sullivan in terms of movement, only worse.  Ralph will be incapable of signing autographs, so that will be left to Vanellope – the princess of pulled taffy.  I don’t have their official schedule yet, but I expect them to meet 10-6 daily, or something like that.

Be sure to check out their new movie which opens November 2.  It’s a great movie with lots of laughs, nods to classic video games and a big heart.  If you’re a character hunter, meet these guys in the next few months or you possibly may never see them.

Possible date for Wreck-it Ralph’s first appearance

I’ve been hearing “late October” for the first appearance for Wreck-it Raplh and Vanellope for a while now, even though the Disney blog announced his appearance as beginning in November.  Recently, I was given the date of Sunday, October 28th as Ralph and Vanellope’s first day to meet and greet guests at Hollywood Studios Magic of Animation, where Winnie the Pooh used to meet.  Stitchkingdom.com has also heard the same date, so I feel reasonably comfortable releasing that date.  Delays can always occur, especially when dealing with a refurb for an area, but that’s the date I’ve heard Disney is shooting for right now.

Wreck-it Ralph and Vanellope VonSchweetz confirmed to be coming to Hollywood Studios

Wreck-it Ralph

The Disney Parks Blog has confirmed the rumors that this blog has been posting for some time that Wreck-it Ralph and Vanellope VonSchweetz are indeed coming to Hollywood Studios this fall.  Their blog states that the characters will be arriving in “November.”  I’ve been hearing for a while that the characters would arrive in late October.  Either the characters are being delayed a bit or the late October timing is more of a soft opening?  The actual movie opening date is November 2, 2012.

Here’s a description of the meet and greet that comes from the Disney Parks Blog:  “Wreck-It Ralph” is going to be great, and meeting Ralph and Vanellope in the parks will be just as fun. At The Magic of Disney Animation attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you’ll step through Game Central Station, catching glimpses of the various game worlds from the film on your way to “Sugar Rush,” where Vanellope and Ralph are waiting to meet you at the finish line.

Winnie the Pooh will cease meeting guests in the Animation area in October and is supposed to rejoin the other Hundred Acre Wood characters for meet and greets at the hat in the mornings.
