My Royal Coronation Breakfast review

This morning my daughter and I made our way to Epcot’s World Showplace to take part in a special one-time event that was known as “My Royal Coronation Breakfast.”  It featured a full breakfast buffet and a meet and greet session with Anna and Elsa from Disney’s Frozen.

When I first posted that this event, being put together by a group of travel agents (www.disevents.com) with a passion for creating magic, the responses varied from how awesome it would be to take part, to some wanting to change their travel dates to take part, to some who thought it was some type of scam.  Well, I can confirm that it wasn’t a scam and it was a lot of fun for my little girl.

We met up at Epcot this morning about 8:00am.  I had worked a full ten hour shift the night before, got a shower and headed over to take part.  We found the line forming on the far right hand side.  The line to enter the park moved really quickly and we were on our way through Epcot to the World Showplace in between Canada and the United Kingdom

Order your KennythePirate’s Character Locator swag

When I feel I might meet a new character or when there’s a big character event like Villains Unleashed or Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, I often wear my special red shirt with the big character pointing hand.  Many people have asked if they can order the same shirt.  It’s now available by ordering at Spreadshirt.  I even updated the image a little.  I’ve used them for over 2 years and I’ve been very happy with the quality of the shirts and the imprints never wear off.  Just click the image below and it will take you to the store to look around.

If you order today or tomorrow, Spreadshirt is offering free delivery on orders of two items or more with the code “Layerup2”

Anna and Elsa meet and greet offering another “TEST”

Disney World is set to offer yet another test concerning the Anna and Elsa meet and greet at the Magic Kingdom.  They previously made guests show up early in the morning, with no warning, and pick up a paper return card.  Well, that test has long passed and Disney has decided to confuse their guests again from September 22-25.  It relates to those who were hoping to use the Stand by queue, not those with pre-arranged Fastpass+.

The Cast Members have been told to allow the queue to fill to an estimated 60 minute wait, then guests wishing to join the Stand by line, will be directed to the Philharmagic Fastpass+ kiosk or they are told they can use their My Disney Experience app to schedule a Fastpass+ for a time later in the day.  Once the additional “day of” Fastpasses are gone, you will not be allowed to meet Anna and Elsa.  These additional Fastpasses will only be released at rope drop on the mornings of September 22-25.

This seems even more confusing to me because the cards were told to go to the stand by line, but are all the Fastpass+ people now joining a single FP+ line, thereby congesting the line further?  I’ll head over in the morning and see what is actually going on with the continuing saga of Frozen confusing tests.

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Historic Reviews

Some readers have asked if I could easily categorize my reviews of things like Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and Star Wars Weekends.  I’ve decided to take up this challenge and I’ll update this list each time I provide a new review.  This list will take on the Halloween Party reviews.  I will also be linking this list to the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Guide to make it easy to find in the future.

Disney World water rides schedule their annual refurbishments

Disney World continues it’s annual refurbishment of it’s water rides during the month of January.  I would suppose that Disney World chooses this month because the crowds are low and the temperatures are lower, meaning the demand for water attractions are at the lowest of the year.  It’s a bummer to those who choose to travel in January, but part of what we deal with to keep the attractions running in an optimized state.

  • Splash Mountain  at the Magic Kingdom will be closed from January 4 through 30
  • Kali River Rapids  at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be closed January 20 through February 4

In case you haven’t heard already, the Studio Backlot Tour will close forever on Saturday, September 27.  I’ll be offering a meet up in front of the attraction at 6:00pm.

  • Studio Backlot Tour – Closing permanently September 27

I’ll also be offering farewell meet ups for the following attractions:

Wreck-it Ralph and Vanellope at Hollywood Studios– October 3 at 5:00pm

Maelstrom final ride meet up – October 5 at 8:00pm.  I encourage you to schedule a Fastpass+ in the 8:00-9:00pm range in advance.

Character Palooza update for 8:00pm Fantasmic! showtimes

Trying to keep up with Character Palooza  is like juggling snowballs. It seems like things change more than they stay the same.  They change the times, they change the locations and they change the characters that appear.  It’s pretty funny in a way because Disney World has moved to the Hyper Planner model of vacationing with pre-arranging your resort stay, rides and dining months in advance, but they try to keep character meets as some sort of top secret, black ops program.

if you don’t know what Character Palooza is or where it’s located or what time it is click this green link for Character Palooza.

If you ask the average Cast Member (who is doing what they are told) they will deny that Character Palooza even exists or act very coy about it all.  Every time the Fantasmic! schedules change, I venture over, very low-key spy style, and try to discern the latest schedules.

Today I observed that the new 8:00pm schedules included a 3:30pm meet (expected) and a 5:05pm meet.  The 5:05pm time was a pretty big shock to me because they arranged the time to fall right when everyone is leaving Lights, Motors, Action.  Both meets were held on New York Street closer to the Writers Stop.  If you aren’t sure where that is, use my Hollywood Studios Map.

I’ve updated the September and October Crowd Calendars and updated Character Locator as well to reflect this change.  If you notice anything wonky, let me know.

Characters meeting today included:   Belle, jasmine, Aladdin, Max, Pinocchio, Jessie, Stitch, Green Army Men, Pocahontas.

Villains Sinister Soiree at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party: Our experience

The Villains Sinister Soiree is a new add-on for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party for 2014.  It costs $99 per person in addition to the Party ticket you had to purchase for admission to the party.  It requires a minimum group of two persons to book.

Disney promises that you’ll receive an exclusive parade and fireworks viewing area, a dessert party and a chance to meet with villains that don’t otherwise appear in the park.  I had a great deal of trepidation about using up half or more of my party time to experience this event. I jokingly mentioned that I’d go if someone sent me.

Well, Melissa at PrincessRants.com took me up on that challenge and provided the tickets to the Villains Soiree for my daughter and I to attend.  I was pretty shocked by it all, but welcomed the challenge.  I’ll soon be providing a special Princess Touring Plan for the party for her site as well as a gift in kind.  After booking the Soiree, she asked if my little girl would like some masquerade masks to use in character meets and sent those to us for free as well.  Debbie ended up with 9 different masks.  It was a bit of a challenge to keep them from falling apart in a hot backpack and the characters kept wanting to see them all night long because they were so amazing.

A couple of details before we begin.

1.  You can only check in at this little kiosk outside the Magic Kingdom for your Soiree credentials.  And you can only check in at 4pm or later.

2.  You’ll be given a special lanyard and a card that you’ll need at the dessert party.  I said “Our last name party of two for late Soiree.”  I was given a card that said “Pierce.”  I said the name is wrong.  The person was like “Eh, close enough.”  We got in either way. Hopefully they weren’t arguing with the Pierce family when they arrived.

3.  Don’t forget that you MUST have a ticket to the actual Hallowen Party in addition to the Soireee! Continue reading Villains Sinister Soiree at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party: Our experience

October Disney World park hours updated and Maelstrom closing to be replaced by a Frozen attraction

Disney announced yesterday that Maelstrom will be closing “soon” for a transformation to a Frozen based theme.  They will also offer a meet and greet in the Norway pavilion again.  Many moons ago I mentioned that they were looking at transforming the theater area into a meet and greet area.  It remains to be seen if the meet and greet will offer a separate Fastpass.

The final date for Maelstrom will be Sunday, October 5th.  I booked our Fastpasses for the final hour this morning.  The new Frozen based attraction is scheduled to reopen in “Early 2016.”  So, don’t get too excited about running over to Norway next month to meet Anna and Elsa.  They will remain in the Magic Kingdom for quite some time.

Speaking of Anna and Elsa, we met them with a 15 minute wait last night at the Halloween Party and got in line around 11:15pm.   Anna was unusually excited and it was the best meet we’ve had with her.

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit to appear at Disney California Adventure

Disney officially announced the coming arrival of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit to the rotation of Disney California Adventure character meet and greets.

Oswald made his film debut September 5, 1927, in the cartoon short “Trolley Troubles.” Walt Disney went on to produce 26 Oswald the Lucky Rabbit shorts, before losing the rights to the character in 1928. It was that experience that inspired the creation of Mickey Mouse, and the rest as they say, is history. Oswald finally returned to the Disney family in 2006 and made his first Disney Parksappearance earlier this year at Tokyo DisneySea.

Later this month, you’ll finally be able to meet Oswald on Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure park. Just look for the lucky little rabbit strolling along the sunny side of the street, starting September 14!

Would you be excited to see him come to Walt Disney World as well?
