Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party 2014 (1a)

Walt Disney World has never offered a Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party this early in the season.  It seemed really premature to be offering everyone a “Happy Halloween” while we were pouring sweat all night long on Labor Day.  I suppose the goal was to sell more… Continue reading KennythePirate’s Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party review from the first party #mnsshp

My girls and I just wanted to head to Epcot in order to meet Chip n Dale in patriotic Revolutionary War costuming.  They were meeting for July 4th only next to the American Adventure attraction.  We arrived around 11:00am and stopped by an Epcot Character Training meet that included Tinker Bell, Aladdin, Minnie, Chip n Dale and Baloo with King Louie.  We chose to meet with Tink, who had the longest line.

We made our way around to America expecting Chip n Dale to begin meeting at 11:30am.  The meet and greet wasn’t published anywhere, so I was going by last year’s times.  The characters finally arrived at Noon.  The line for them was steady in the 30-45 minute range through the day.

From there we stepped over to enjoy the Voices of Liberty July 4 celebration, which was amazing.  I’ll share some video clips on my Youtube channel later.  I usually post little video clips on my Facebook page while I’m touring around too.  There was a light rain, but we endured it.  I thought we should take in the American Adventure show before leaving, but noticed a line off to the left and learned that Mickey, Goofy and Donald would be meeting there shortly.  Of course, we joined the line!

We were asked to only take one photo per family, so I wasn’t able to take a photo of the characters by themselves like I often do 😦  They weren’t allowing autographs either to speed the line.  That was no big deal to us.

After meeting these characters, it was time to take in the American Adventure before heading out of the park.

Rock Your Summer Side Dance Party at Hollywood Studios

Rock Your Summer Side Dance Party

Update:  It appears that this dance party will be merged into the Frozen Summer of Fun Live promotion and will begin at 5:30pm at the Sorcerer’s Hat.

Something that seemingly appeared out of nowhere is the new “Rock Your Summer Side” Disney character dance party.  It was announced on Friday and began the same day.  According to the press release the dance party will be offered in front of the Sorcerer Hat at Hollywood Studios until August 22nd.  The dance party runs from 6:00pm to 10:00pm daily.

The dance party features 30 minutes of live music by Mulch, Sweat and Shears followed by 30 minutes with a DJ and the Disney characters.  The characters first appeared at 6:30pm to an otherwise empty dance party area.  As soon as everyone saw the face below, the people in the area ran to meet the VIP characters.

Jedi Mickey’s Star Wars Dinner at Hollywood and Vine in Disney’s Hollywood Studios review

Jedi Mickey’s Star Wars Dinner at Hollywood and Vine in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

This Star Wars dinner has a totally different feeling and appeal to it than its breakfast counterpart.  The breakfast meal is in a really dark environment and features dark characters (except Jawas) and they provide movie clips.  (recently added more content to the breakfast post, so you might want to click the link to check out the additions).

The Jedi Mickey’s dinner provides a much lighter feeling.  It’s bright and vibrant and there’s upbeat music playing.  It features some great classic characters that includes Chip n Dale as Ewoks, Jedi Mickey, Princess Leia Minnie, Darth Goofy and Stormtrooper Donald.  You can meet these same characters in the park during Star Wars Weekends in these costumes, but expect long lines and Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy rotate often.

Jedi Mickey’s Star Wars Dine cost information:

The cost of this Star Wars character meal is $55.99 for adults 10 and over and  $32.99 for children 3 to 9 years of age.  If you’d like to make it a Fantasmic! dining package the cost is slightly more at $59.99 for adults and $36.99 for children.  The meal will also include a FREE digital download of Ewok Chip n Dale. The meal will begin serving at 4:15pm daily and close with the park.

The Disney Star Wars Characters in attendance:

Chip n Dale as Ewoks

Ewok Chip n Dale are the official greeters of Jedi Mickey’s dinner at Hollywood and Vine.  They appear with a giant logo background right as you enter the restaurant.  They do not move about the restaurant, they are in a fixed location.  Meeting Chip and Dale at Jedi Mickey's Star Wars character dinner

Easter Grand Floridan character meet and greets 2014

We started out our Easter meet plan with the goal of hoping to meet Mickey and Minnie in their purple formal attire.  We thought we’d park at the TTC and take the monorail over.  We arrived before 8:00am with the goal of being on the Grand Floridian lawn by 8:15am.  Well, all didn’t go as planned.  As we prepared to board the resort monorail, we were told there would be a minor delay to do a “maintenance test.”  The train sat there for a couple of minutes, then we all boarded.  It moved back and forth a few times, made a really odd braking noise and then it totally powered off.

We sat there with no power for a couple of minutes and they re-booted the system.  We thought we were ready to go.  We moved a few feet forward and they reopened the doors and allowed more people to board.  After a few more minutes we finally moved a short distance.  The train would start, then stop, then start…

Santa Mickey at Old Key West Resort during Christmas week

I’ve been so busy with family and blog stuff that I haven’t had a chance to complete my Christmas Week character set.  On Christmas Eve morning, my daughters and I traveled over to the Old Key West Resort to see who we would find and it was none other than Santa Mickey!  This year he even added a beard for us too.

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Sept 20 including Princess Fairytale Hall experiences

I entered the Magic Kingdom about 5:30 PM and went to check out the old Mickey meet first.  I noticed that Mickey is still supplying unconnected Fastpasses (you can get Mickey Fastpass and any other at the same time).  The Princess FP machines were closed because they were moved to Fantasyland, as I discussed yesterday.

Meeting the Fab Four at Star Wars Weekends

During Star Wars Weekends Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy take on new personalities to reflect the celebration.  Mickey becomes a Jedi, Minnie becomes Leia, Donald becomes a Storm Trooper and Goofy is the best of all as Darth Goofy.  The characters sign their normal names, not anything special for the weekend.  I wish they had provided the autograph cards like they did for May the Fourth, the lines would have moved much faster.  In order to meet all four it requires: luck, repeated visits or good timing.  In my case, I observed that all the Fab Four arrived together at about 9:45 am, so I got in line at 9:10.  The queue was filled and the current meet was Mickey and Minnie.

The cast member informs guests that they may or may not meet the characters visible because they rotate.  They ask that guests not move aside to let others pass, but I saw it happen frequently while I was there in many lines.  I have never understood that rule.  If the girl behind me wants to see Leia Minnie and I want to see Donald, why couldn’t one just stand aside?  Oh well, I don’t make the rules, just try to follow them.  They even flipped the line entrance at the Fab Four meet so people couldn’t sit on the wall at the last minute and let people pass.

So back to the story, I got in line at 9:10 expecting full queue to take 40-45 minutes.  When Mickey and Minnie left and large group of people around me sighed.  Donald and Goofy arrived and spirits picked up with a hope that they would be there.  As they left, I informed those around me that it should be all the Fab Four meeting together if they followed the same plan as the previous two days.  Donald and Goofy reappeared first and the crowd was like, huh?  Then Mickey and Minnie appeared to large cheers.  Those in the first of the three lines in the queue would probably see them, those after that, may not.  I met them at 9:55 am, so it was indeed a 45 minute wait.

R2-MK at Star Wars Weekends

R2-Mk was introduced to Star Wars Weekends a couple of years back, but wasn’t available for meets in 2012.  R2-MK is Jedi Mickey’s personal droid.  I have a personal droid too, it’s called Razr Maxx, but that’s beside the point.  R2-MK was only available in the afternoons for select meets during Star Wars Weekends.  I met him Weekend One 2013.
