Tower of Terror now offering on-ride videos with Memory Maker package.

If you are using Disney World’s Memory Maker package as part of the Photopass system, you may be aware that you receive on-ride photos of many of the rides.  Beginning today, Twilight Zone Tower of Terror will begin offering on-ride VIDEO of your experience.  If you are using Memory Maker, the videos should automatically be added to your My Disney Experience account within 24 hours of completing your experience.

The experience is ONLY available to guests with a current Memory Maker package and linked MagicBands.  Other rides are expected to receive this special addition in coming weeks and months.

For a description of the Memory Maker package take a look at this post.

Which Disney World character meet and greets offer Fastpass+?

I’m often asked this question via email and Facebook, so I thought I’d create a simple post that explains which character meets offer Fastpass and which ones would have priority.  I’ll update this post if things change in the future.

Animal Kingdom

  • Meet Mickey and Minnie at the Adventurers Outpost.  The MyDisneyExperience app actually refers to this meet as “Meet Favorite Disney Pals at Adventurers Outpost.”  The photo shows Mickey and Minnie, but it doesn’t specify the characters.  This is the ONLY location that offers Mickey and Minnie in the same photo in the same location.  Use this as a 3rd or 4th Fastpass option.

Fastpass+ offering the ability to use more than 3 FP+ in a single day and park hop.

Today, April 28, 2014 Walt Disney World began a new phase in Fastpass+ (FP+) offerings.  Guests are now allowed to choose more than the original limit of 3 Fastpasses per day with some limitations.  Guests can even use Fastpass+ for park hopping to a degree.

1.  Guest must book 3 Fastpass+ selections from the Disney website, My Disney Experience app or in park kiosk.

2.  Once the 3 FP+ have been used OR the time frame expires on your FP+ selections, a guest may go to an in-park kiosk and book ONE additional FP+ from any available at that time.  (High demand attractions like Anna & Elsa, Toy Story Midway Mania, Soarin’ and Test Track could be gone by the time you try this).

3.  Once the 4th FP+ has been used or the time frame expires, you may book another FP+ and continue this process as long as FP+ is available.  (The additional selection can take place in the same park, or a different park)  There will be no limitation on how many additional selections you can make, but they must be made one at a time.

4.  At this time guests can ONLY book the additional FP+ at an in park kiosk.  Walt Disney World plans to allow the flexibility to use their app for the additional FP+, but this feature is not currently available.

5.  Any ride can be chosen as the 4th (or more) selection, including the ability to re-ride the same attraction you chose earlier based on availability.

6.  The guest can choose any attraction as the 4th (or more).  The tiers that are a part of Epcot and Hollywood Studios will not apply to the in-park kiosk selections of number 4 or more.

So, what does all this mean?  Guests will be allowed to pick over any available attractions that remain, but that doesn’t mean you’ll get to re-ride Toy Story Midway Mania and it doesn’t mean you’ll find Anna and Elsa FP+ in the park.  This feature is going to be most effective at the Magic Kingdom which has a wide variety of Fastpass options.  This feature will also mean that wait times at rides like Pirates of the Caribbean, it’s a small world and Haunted Mansion could actually increase later in the day because more people will be using FP+ for these attractions.

If you choose a late FP+ for things like Main Street Electrical Parade, Wishes, Illuminations or Fantasmic as part of your original 3 FP+, you’ll be locked out of being able to make the additional FP+ choices.

I recommend that you continue to use the Touring Plans that I’ve written exactly as they are presented, because they work.  If you’d like to make use of the extra FP+, just book them after using the 3 outlined in the plans.

Magic Bands and My Disney Experience will be available to guests staying off Walt Disney World property

Beginning next week, guests staying offsite, not on Walt Disney World property, will be offered the opportunity to pre-book Fastpass+ reservations using My Disney Experience.  Off site guests will be allowed to reserve Fastpass+ options up to 30 days before their date of park visit.   Off site guests would be allowed to book for up to 7 days at a time.

Guests will be allowed the option of purchasing a MagicBand at the park for $12.95 each, but they aren’t required as the ticket media is all RFID enabled and will operate just fine without the MagicBand.  The Magic Band would basically just make you look like all the cool people and keep you from pulling your ticket out of your pocket three times per day.

Offsite guests will need to link their ticket number to the MyDisneyExperience website before being allowed to make reservations.  After linking your ticket to the system, you can use the My Disney Experience app and website freely to reserve, change, copy and delete Fastpass+ options.

How to get difficult Fastpass+ reservations from My Disney Experience

NOTE:  EVERY person that plans to enter the line must have a pre-reserved Fastpass+, even if they don’t plan to take part in the photo opportunity.

This could be really easy to understand or I could blow it big time 🙂

Kelly wrote me to ask why she couldn’t find Fastpass+ (FP+) reservations for her group of 5 to meet Anna and Elsa in May even though she is within her 60 day window for guests staying at a Disney resort.  I recommended using a strategy that I used yesterday afternoon at Hollywood Studios to get Rock n Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror and Star Tours in the afternoon when Rock n Roller Coaster didn’t have group availability.

Here’s what you can do:

Book reservations for ONE person, then either COPY those reservations to one or more at a time or continue to book them ONE PERSON AT A TIME until you get them all regardless of the return time.  You could then play with the times a bit.  It’s easier to adjust the times on a computer than it is a phone though.  You might need to move a person’s return time up or down a bit to find a range that a group could use for entry.

I recommended the Copy or Single book strategy to Kelly who was able to find the following reservations to meet Anna and Elsa on her desired date.

  • 1 person for 2:55 – 3:55
  • 2 people for 3:05 – 4:05
  • 2 people for 3:25 – 4:25

She asked what her return range would be if they entered as an entire group.  I stated that the return range would be 3:25-3:55 pm.  The reason is because the group can’t enter together until the LAST person is available (3:25) and the group can only enter as late as the FIRST person (3:55) in the group.

With that stated, you are allowed to enter 5 minutes early and usually are allowed to enter up to 10 minutes late at each FP+ reservation.  So, the theoretical range for this group is 3:20-4:05pm, but I wouldn’t guarantee the late arrival time, as it is subject to the Cast Member allowing entry.

It’s a lot of work to find those little crumbs some times, but it’s worth it if your family REALLY wants to do an attraction that isn’t showing availability.

How I just got three Tier 1 Fastpass+ for Epcot and Hollywood Studios

UPDATE:  This glitch appears to have been patched overnight.   They are getting faster with their patch times 🙂

With the ever-changing world that is Fastpass+ testing, there’s a couple of things that I’ve learned or heard.  I did the following on the web version.  My Droid won’t even let me login today, uggghhh!

First thing I learned today:

You can make 3 FP+ Tier ONE choices for Epcot and Hollywood Studios with just a minor amount of effort today.  Here’s how I did that:

1.  Book your regular 1 Tier ONE FP and 2 Tier TWO FP of your choice.

2.  Change one of your Tier TWO FP and it allows you to change it to a Tier ONE FP.  Repeat process with other Tier TWO changed to Tier ONE FP, based on availability.

I was able to book Maelstrom, Test Track and Soarin’ for today with a minor amount of effort on the web version of My Disney Experience.

Moments later I repeated the process for tomorrow at Hollywood Studios and changed two Tier TWO FP for two Tier ONE FP.HS-3-FPThere’s no guarantee how long this will last.  Disney could change that within seconds of me posting or keep it forever.

Second thing I heard today:

Disney is going to test the ability to do more than 3 FP+.  This is just a strong rumor, but I heard that once you’ve used up the 3 FP+ that your allowed, you’ll be able to book another one based on availability and continue to do so throughout the day.  It would still limit you to the one hour blocks of time that currently exist.  This part hasn’t been confirmed.

In other Fastpass+ news, Disney just released a new iPhone version of My Disney Experience today.  It’s said to be much faster and smoother in operation.  My brother has this version and he likes it much better.  You can download that version in the iTunes store.  If you want full character and entertainment schedules, you should get my app though 🙂
