On our recent trip to Universal Studios Orlando, we wanted to visit as many characters as possible while still enjoying the other attractions. High on our list of Universal Characters to meet were the Transformers characters. These characters weren’t listed on the map, any handout or Universal’s website. There is no location listed and there is no schedule mentioned ANYWHERE. You know that isn’t good enough for KtP, so we set out to meet these characters AND get some schedule details.
We found that the Transformers were meeting on a little back street between Shrek 4D and Monster Cafe. Basically, just take a right when you pass Shrek 4D and you’ll see the meet ahead on the right. You’ll pass Shrek, Donkey and Fiona’s meet as well. So, pirateman, when do these characters actually meet? They meet from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm daily during the summer months AND we found that they rotate exactly every 20 minutes. Bumblebee met on the :00’s, Optimus Prime met on the :20’s and Megatron met on the :40’s. (Now that will get spread all over the internet right? Lol)
We lined up about 9:35 and Optimus Prime was meeting, but the Team Members were informing guests that they would be meeting Megatron. A couple left the line, but we actually preferred Megatron because we never saw him at Universal Studios Hollywood last year. Behold the power of Megatron!
These are some really tall and really cool characters! Look at the details.
Fear for the camera! There’s really no way you can “interact” with these characters. They ask that the guests stand at a distance for the safety of the performer and the guest and to protect the really expensive costuming. I asked Megatron to scratch between my shoulder blades, but he seemed disinterested.
Whoever decided to give the Transformers their own garage is brilliant! It not only adds to the effect, it saves time and protects everyone from possible injury. Last summer in Hollywood, they had to walk through the streets with the guests when rotating.
See you at 10:40 Megatron!
Shortly after Megatron disappears, Optimus Prime makes his grand debut.
In this video you can see him appear and he actually speaks!!!
The Quality Blogging Standards committee calls for a minimum of 2 side angle shots of Transformers characters to see the great details, so I’ll provide this one too.
I wanted to see the dude Transform into a truck, but all he wanted to do was preen for the camera. He seems like he is accustomed to the requests of the paparazzi. He did seem to have a certain gleam in his windshield though.
We waited two short times in the shade to meet the first two characters and lined up again to meet Bumblebee. The Team Members were doing a great job clearly communicating when they broke the line for the next character. We were second in line for Bumblebee after the next rotation. And tada, Optimus Prime appeared again. Bumblebee was late arriving for this set, so Optimus went into hero mode. We communicated with Luisa, the Team Leader, that we only needed Bumblebee and we’d come back later. She was SUPER nice and told us to come back and see her and we could be first in line to meet Bumblebee. We returned at 2:55 pm and the meet and greet area was now in the blazing sun! Luisa told us to stand to the side in the shade and allowed us to be first to meet him. THAT is the type of service that makes a guest want to return to Universal Orlando!
Very heroic pose by Bumblebee.
I recommend meeting them in the morning hours or late in the afternoon to avoid standing in the beaming sun. The meet and greet was one of the best organized character experiences that I’ve seen and the Team Members do a great job assisting guests and making sure you know WHO you will actually meet. If someone sees Luisa, tell her I said she is a terrific manager.
Here’s a little video of a lady who was proposing to Optimus Prime. She must be a truck woman. Oh, and you can subscribe to my youtube channel too! http://www.youtube.com/user/kennythepirate
