Sunday Squeeze #3

January 22, 2012

Before I start with my new Sunday Squeeze, I would like to apologize for the lack of updates.  I plan to return to posting regular columns again this week.  It’s been a difficult month after losing my job and didn’t realize how much it affected me emotionally.

Nothing compares to the joy of seeing your child happy.  Seeing those memories captured on film, or a computer file, helps us keep those great memories throughout our lives.  My daughter had just met with Chip n Dale at the Epcot Character Spot.  It was in the days before Samantha Brown told people about this little treasure.  We used to be able to meet all the headliner characters with little or no wait throughout the day!

Debbie was so excited to finally get to meet Chip n Dale that she could barely contain herself.  She was jumping and dancing in circles and singing.  We had met Mickey, Minnie and Donald and it was time to finally meet the chipmunks.  They played with her and jumped and danced.  After getting their autograph and photo with her little friend, I took this photo of her as she completed the meet and greet.  Words can’t describe the joy she expressed.

What about you?  Do you have moments you’d like to share?

Next week a Friend of the Site (FOS) Reto will be sharing a moment he had with his favorite character Baloo!

  1. About 5 years ago, we were at Epcot with my daughter who was 3 at the time. We were having dinner in Italy, at Tutto Italia, and we were seated next to a couple who was there celebrating a birthday. The husband had been to Disney before, but his wife had never been to Disney, and it was her birthday. The husband has asked one of the employees if he could have his wife serenaded during their meal. We had just sat down, and were able to order our drinks. They brought our drinks out, and soon thereafter, along comes an older gentleman, which could be anyone’s grandfather, and he stands between our tables and faces towards the wife of the couple. Now, my daughter was sitting on the same side of our table, looking at this guy. Well he starts singing Bella Notte, from Lady and the Tramp, and my daughter started to smile. With her elbows on the table, and her hands under her chin, she started drinking her milk from the straw, and looked up at the gentleman singing. Well, I think she caught his eye, because he started to look at her, and started singing to my daughter.
We felt bad because he was asked to sing to this guys wife, and here he is starting to sing to our daughter. My daughter continued to just stare at him with her elbows on the table, hands under her chin. Well, when he turned to my daughter, she started to smile, and I think that was it. He got down on one knee, and continued to belt out the song. We were embarrassed only because it was the couple next to us who had asked for his wife to be serenaded, and here he was singing to my daughter. By this time, everyone in the restaurant noticed what had happened and was watching him sing to my daughter, and watched her reactions, and when the song ended, the place erupted with one of the loudest applauses I had ever heard, even from the wait staff. I apologized to the couple, but they said that it was the best that they had ever seen, and they were glad they were part of it.
To this day, this is one of my favorite Disney memories. I am sure there will be plenty more, but this one will always be on the top of my list.
